The magnificent estate of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Designed by architect Julia Morgan in 1919, the 165 opulent rooms are filled with Renaissance furniture, Roman mosaics and tapestries from around the world. During December, much of the castle is decorated for the holidays. Guest access is by shuttle from the visitor center, just off Highway 1. The National Geographic Theater, also located in the visitor center, presents films daily on a five-story iWERKS screen; call (805)927-6811 for show information. Four guided walking tours explore different areas of the estate. A special evening tour is conducted during spring and fall; call for details. HISTORIC PIEDRAS BLANCAS LIGHTHOUSE STATE PARK (888)804-8608
Located just north of San Simeon on Highway 1. The point is named for the three white rocks located just off the end of the point. Take Highway 1 north from Cambria to see breathtaking vistas and the scenic coast along the Big Sur National Forest.

ELEPHANT SEALS
The Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery is located north of Cambria and San Simeon along scenic Coast Highway One. The vista point has a number of excellent educational and interpretive signs provided by Caltrans. Look for Friends of the Elephant Seal docents in their blue jackets to answer your questions.
