Nearby Attractions:
Cayucos:
• Located on cool, colorful Estero
Bay, this relaxing beach town boasts white sand beaches and Cass’ Wharf,
a “Free
Public Fishing Pier” for rock fishing
• Locals swear by the poker room at the Old Cayucos Tavern,
just after Morro Bay. Cool bar scene on Saturday nights…
Morro Bay:
• Interesting Facts: The beautiful and austere Morro Rock is
one in a series of volcanic “plugs” that stretch in a line
inland called the Nine Sisters.
• The rock’s original shape was altered when rock was quarried
to fill in the northern channel and create the harbor
• Besides the incredible rock in the middle of the bay, the
one place everyone will tell you to check out in Morro Bay is Taco
Temple, located in the Spencer’s Supermarket Parking Lot. Known
for delicious large-portion fish tacos and crab cakes, along with superior
service and no nonsense decor
San Luis Obispo:
• Downtown
San Luis Obispo is built around the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa,
originally built in 1772. It is one of the best preserved examples
of Spanish Mission architecture and among the oldest buildings in California
• The doctor’s office on the corner of Santa Rosa and Pacific
streets is one of very few commercial buildings designed by Frank Lloyd
Wright
• Be sure to check out the Madonna Inn. Established by Alex
Madonna in 1958, the inn is an eccentric building known for its wild
decor, themed guest rooms, and a waterfall urinal in a men’s
restroom
• Also of interest (to some) is Bubble Gum Alley. Since 1960,
people have been sticking their chewed gum on the walls of this alley
located on Higuera Street, between Broad and Garden streets.
• Nearby Edna Valley has become a very popular wine region.
Just south of the city, you can spend an afternoon wine-tasting at
the many wineries in the area
Pismo Beach:
• Check out Alex’s
BBQ (Shell Beach Road), world famous for their oak pit barbeque ribs
• Oceano Dunes is the only California State Park where vehicles
may be driven on the beach. Rent dune buggies and enjoy exhilarating
off-road thrills
